Advice needed! Active baby sleep options!

My 3 month old son is a big fella already well past 15lbs so we've had to move him out of the pack n play bassinet piece we've had him in since birth. We brought our beautiful crib down to our bedroom and thought it would be great but he doesn't like it and thrashes around all night he has ended up 360degreees with head against the wood slates and I'm worried he's really going to hurt himself...on the other hand the bottom piece of pack n play has areas that are not mesh so SIDS worries me..ugh why can't this be easy!! Any advice? We know bumpers are a no go too :(
