TTC after stillbirth @ 22w - severe Spina bifida

Hi there,

My husband and I are TTC again. We lost our son at 22w gestation to severe Spina bifida, severely tethered spinal cord and Chiari malformation 2.

Our specialist doctor met with us two months ago and told us we we're cleared to try again, that she believes our son's condition was a once off. She found nothing on his autopsy results to suggest we have any problematic genes etc.. she told us we have the same chance as any other couple (one who hasn't experienced neural tube birth defect before as well as one who has) and to take the megafol 5mg folic acid every day for a month before we start trying.

I need to hear some positive stories please. This is my fertile week and I am so excited and also scared. I've been taking the megafol since first week of August and also a prenatal vitamin as well with more folic acid and iodine. After we lost our son my husband and I started smoking, we've quit now though.

We have two healthy girls at home.. I am so petrified to lose our next baby, as I know my husband will say no to trying again if there's something wrong with our 4th child :(
