Do you agree with the ACLU's stance on hate speech? "Censoring so-called hate speech also runs counter to the long-term interests of the most frequent victims of hate: racial, ethnic, religious and sexual minorities. We should not give the government the power to decide which opinions are hateful, for history has taught us that government is more apt to use this power to prosecute minorities than to protect them. As one federal judge has put it, tolerating hateful speech is "the best protection we have against any Nazi-type regime in this country."

I would love never to have to hear hate speech again but banning a person's right of free speech is going to far. my biggest fear is who gets to decide on what should be banned. I hold on to the the fact that the right that gives people the ability to say hateful things also gives me the right to point out all the ways they are ignorant.

It's a double edged sword, because free speech is protected under the 1st amendment. However, once that speech incites violence, causes bodily harm, and/or gets someone killed it will be used against anyone under the hate crime statute. 
I don't condone threatening rhetoric or hate speech that leads to violence or death. Ppl fail to realize that their rhetoric can and will be used against them, so with that being said, let them have it because if anyone uses hate speech as a tool to cause harm or violence you have more than enough evidence and ammunition to prosecute. 
Hate speech is disgusting, harmful, demoralizing, and dangerous. It's not meant to be easy or polite, it's used as a tool as a weapon. The ACLU, protects everyone's right to have free speech even those we greatly disagree with, so long as their speech does not cause harm, incites violence or lead to someone's death. They do not protect hate speech. 
Free speech and hate speech are different, but there is a thin line between the two and that line can be blurred at times.
