How many baby books did you read?

I'm not pregnant and we're not trying(very newlyweds) but I am interested in trying soon.. but I'm scared to death that I know nothing about babies. I was the baby in my family and was never around any babies. I've babysat a friends baby for a week during the day once. Not alot of experience there lol . I'm reading all kinds of stuff to help know more but everyone and everything says things come more natural than you'd think once it's really happening. But it's terrifying! I didn't even know tummy time was a thing and your supposed to start it the day you come home from the hospital?! what! how are you supposed to know that!? do you wake your baby to feed it or do you follow the "never wake a sleeping baby" how many wet diapers is too many or not enough. These are all the thoughts running through my mind even though my womb is empty lol Did you read any newborn books to prepare?

First, relax.

Second, many books are great. WTE is a favorite, and it's helpful. I also loved the no cry sleep solution.

I do keep up to date on the newest research. With my first son, it was solids at 4 months and avoid high allergen foods until 12 m. By the time I had my second born it was 6 months and avoid high allergen foods until 12. With my third it was solids at 6 months and all high allergen foods early on (just no honey). Some of the regulations change such as the car seat rear facing until age 2. I keep up on those because believe it or not, not all ped's do.

I'm a Mom of 3 and over my many years of parenting I know that Parenting isn't about having all of the answers. It is about trusting yourself and being confident in your choices. Your kids will respond better as well. Infants especially respond to firm and loving confidence and will be much more relaxed kids if you are likely to go with the flow.

If you expect anything the first year, expect change. You will have the best sleep routine and awesome sleeping baby and then life will smack you the hell down again. Just keep moving forward and it will eventually get back on track.

There are a few things I stopped stressing about. 1) Sleep. They all get there. It's a milestone. Set the routine and plow through. 2) Meeting milestones. As long as they are in the realm of normal, let baby get there. 3) Breastmilk. Yes, I had enough. No stressing about not having enough didn't help. If baby is growing, you are good. 4) Poop! Breastfed babies can go 10 days without pooping and go through a phase where they need to learn how. Don't stick shit up your kids butt to get them to poop. Don't feed solids to make poop happen. Constipation = solid poop. Poop not solid? Good to go. 5) What The baby across the street is doing. You are walking at 6 months?! Congrats. No, he's not likely a genius, but ok, yay for you. Mine still sticks things up his nose and I'm cool with that.
