Are children these days getting more spoilt and ridiculous? Are some parents overdoing the gifts?

Question

I was downstairs having my dinner with my younger sibling when they started talking about presents of Santa.
The youngest(4) is reasonable and just wants cars and motorbikes plus one he can sit on and "drive". He wouldn't care if Santa brought the €1.50 cars from deals because he'll love them anyway.
On the other hand the other two are being in my opinion obsurd for what they want yet again. 
The 9 year old wants a laptop, electric car, games, clothes, makeup, phone etc. I find it ridiculous she is 9 years old, she has had at least 5 tablets, 4 of which no longer work or were smashed. She got a go kart last Christmas and it hasn't seen the outside world in months at least 6. She asks for things and then doesn't use them, I say its stupid and ridiculous to keep giving her things but my parents still give them whatever they want and they're not learning to look after what they're given.
The older one again (10) is asking for an iPhone 6 , virtual reality set + games, iPod and whatnot. That alone is 1000+ worth of " toys" that will end up broken or left alone.
She has had 8+ tablets, iPod , 2 phones , laptop/tablet, Ds, dsi, DVD players etc. And right now she has one tablet and a ps4. She is a absolute spoilt brat and cries over everything. 
I got a Ds for my 9th birthday, a third hand phone (block Nokia that was and orange) when I was 10 I didn't get a laptop till I was in secondary school so I could write up notes and create slideshows so I could learn more. 
Christmas presents were scooters, bikes ,roller skates, skate boards and a few dolls here and there normal things that I would use at least 2+ times a weeks I took care of them with my life. Kids (their friends plus ones I look after) are the Same phones, laptops, tablets, PlayStation, Xbox, ds, etc.
what do you think are kids these days becoming more spoilt ? what's your thoughts ?
Because my children will be raised completely different.Children these days are so goddamn spoilt and are gonna get a complete shock when they are left to face to world we live in

My point is that adults have been saying these things about the younger generation since the dawn of time. Kids aren't any more spoiled today than they were when I was growing up.

Sorry but just because someone has money and showers their children in gifts, does not make them spoiled. It's how you raise them that makes hem spoiled. 
If someone can only afford to spend 100 dollars on their children for Christmas vs someone who can afford to spend 10,000 on Christmas - that's ok, but it's how the child is raised that determines if they are spoiled. 
If someone makes millions a year, are they supposed to spend the same amount as someone who makes 100k? Or 10k? Or less?

For me personally, no I won't be buying my son expensive phones or laptops at a young age. When buying toys or anything for children you do have to keep in mind that at some point it can very well become damaged. I think many people that already have an iPad or tablet won't really need to go out & buy something like a leap frog tablet unless they want to, because they can easily download educational apps or games on their tablet / iPad, put it on child safety mode, put a protective case on it & call it a day. If I already had an iPad that's what I would be doing. It saves money along with teaching your child. It's a win / win. I think every child at a young age wants things that they see everyone else having, such as phones, Xbox, video games, laptops etc. I didn't want those things growing up either because those things wasn't in my household (meaning my parents or siblings never had them) & I never seen them when we went out in public either. It's just a natural thing for children to want what everyone else has, but it is the parents responsibility to make sure they get things within reason, make sure they understand the value of them & maybe even limit their use or buy protective cases to help prevent damages.

I was totally spoiled and I didn't realize it until I was an adult- it's not always a bad thing to be spoiled bc now I have high standards and I don't settle. My mom and I joke about it bc in actuality she didn't spend much on me- KB toystore used to have these $1 Barbie outfits she'd buy me 3 or 4- that would make my week and I'd be so grateful! It all depends how you're raised in the end.

OMG when I was in third grade, kindergarten students were already having cell phones! I'm now in junior year of high school, and I do t have a phone, but little immature sixth graders do? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD!?
