Pee tests?

Might be a stupid question...but why at all my appointments do I have to pee into a cup?  What are they looking for?  I always forget to ask.  21w5d

They check for protein and sugar. Protein is a sign of preeclampsia as well as labor. Sugar is for diabetes.

They check for protein in your urine which is s sign of preclsmpsia! They don't comment at my doctors office unless there is a reason to!

My dr dosent take urine samples at each vist unless you have a history of protein, sugar, or drug problems! In my state they take a urine sample during labor to check for drugs. So what they said but every dr can be dif and not even do them.

They look at infection markers. And also protein which together with a high bp suggests ore eclampsia. They also look at glucose as if you are developing gestational diabetes you will excrete glucose.

I know on one of mine they sent off cause it was a little darker than he liked. Turned out I had a UTI, guess they don't check it for uti all the time guess if they just think there might be a reason. I'm curious too what all they check, is that how they decide if you do that glucose test? Really not looking forward to it :/ if I have to do it. Super sugary drinks make me throw up, even Gatorade

They've never once done a urine test on me. I'm 23 weeks with twins and have already had to go to the ER for 3 UTIs.

Mine only checks sugars and protein. I thought I had a UTI and asked if I had one she said she didn't know because they don't check unless I ask :( so you might let them know if you ever think you have one, before they take your urine.
