LEEP HELP!

I am supposed to have a LEEP procedure in about a month and I'm absolutely terrified. I am even more terrified because my doctor wants to put me completely under for the procedure and also to have it done in the hospital. I've never been put under anesthesia and I honestly think I'm more terrified of that than the actual procedure. I did my research and most doctors inject you with lidocaine and do the procedure in the office which I would be way more comfortable doing than at the hospital and put to sleep. I don't know what to do about this and it's making me so stressed out to the point that I'm having thoughts of ignoring the entire thing and hoping it will just go away on its own. I trust my doctor. He's great and delivered my son who is now 5, however I just can't get over not being fully awake and not functional while he's doing this procedure. Has anyone been completely under for this procedure? I just don't get why I would have to be under for a 10 minute procedure.
