I think it comes down to one question- do we want to live in a country that forces you to stand during the national anthem or gives you the right to stand?

When my aunt had left for the first time to the navy it was a major chance for all of us. When she came back from serving for the second time, I was still in middle school and she asked me if we still stood for the pledge of allegiance during class. I told her of course we do who wouldn't? She smiled at me and told me that when her comrades and her talk they say that even though that they can't see, they think about it and that's what keeps them going. Unless you have served yourself and decide to take a knee, then I respect that because you have fought for that flag. But if your a person who is being payed 16 million a year to play football, I expect you to honor that flag. Even at my boyfriends football games, an old army veteran always goes to watch the game and he's probably around 80 or in his 90's. He can barely walk let alone stand but when we begin the pledge of allegiance, he gets up by himself shaking and wheezing and still salutes the flag. I've had it before where I got injured and had to be stuck in a wheel chair till I got my crutches and I still stood for our flag. I've seen people who are literally physically incapable of standing and they still stand to salute or flag. If your going to protest, don't protest against something that's given you that freedom. When I was in D.C., none of the students would stand and I would be the only one. I would want to cry and scream at them to stand up since I saw it as a major sign of disrespect, especially for my family members who lost their lives serving. I would do it out of simply courtesy cause you never know who among the people near you have lost someone who fought for that flag.

For me, I will always stand, as I view it as respect, and I will always encourage it for that reason. However, I don't agree with the idea that they should be forced to, because I believe it is our right to decide. So, no, I don't feel they should be forced to, but I do feel they are being disrespectful.

They have the right to do it. Both of my parents did 20 years in the Navy and neither of them will stand because of the injustices they feel as black latinx in this country. Also NO WHERE in the flag code of conduct does it say that ANYONE HAS TO STAND. But you know what is forbidden by the "Flag code"? 
•wearing the flag as apparel, bedding, or drapery 
(Flag code chapter 10.176D)
•using the flag for any advertising 
(US flag code chapter 10.176I)
•Having it embroidered on any type of cushion or handkerchief 
(US flag code chapter 10.176I pt 2)
•Having the image of the flag printed on paper plates, napkins, cups, etc. essentially anything disposable 
(US flag code chapter 10.176I pt 3)
•Using the flag or its image as a part of a costume or uniform
(US flag code chapter 10.176J)
So in all honesty a lot of you disrespect the flag ALL OF THE TIME. On holidays, when your favorite sports team has flags or the image of the flag on their uniforms, that lovely throw blanket or pillows your grandma has. All violations flag code and all disrespectful to the flag. JS.

I love this country. We are a country founded by rebels who refused to submit to a government who would not listen. A true patriot loves their country and demands that their country be the absolute best that it can be.  Our right to protest is essential to our identity as Americans. But as you protest, please remember to honor the men and women who gave everything for your right to protest. 
Personally, I am not bothered by the protest. I find American Flag string bikinis more disrespectful than quietly taking a knee during the national anthem.

In my opinion is very disrespectful, it doesn't matter if you like the president or not, it's your country we are talking about. Do you like your country? Are you proud of your country? Do you feel some kind or respect for your country brothers and sisters? Your fans? Its the national anthem! Pay some respect to your country, our veterans and soldiers that fight to have that flag standing! Give some good example to the young and kids that watch after you! America pays you to play at least have some respect back! Who's dividing the nation is you has a celebrity can't put your differences away a set some good example of what is respect and tolerance.
