If it hurts, the baby isn’t latching correctly. You should feel tugging but there should be absolutely no pain. I was a lactation consultant assistant a couple years back. So I know first hand it should not hurt. But if it does there may be a latch issue. Nipple may not be deep enough

Yes, for me it was painful the first week and then again when the teeth came in.

You can be in pain even if baby has a good latch if your nipples are dry or cracked. So looking for good latch is important but also make sure you dry off your nipples or even wash them after a feeding. Even though my sons latch had nothing wrong it takes time for your body to adjust. Use coconut oil or lanolin to soothe them.

My son wasn’t latching well in the hospital and when we first got home. Which led to ALOT of pain for me. I used a nipple shield for the first 2 months because it helped with the pain. I almost gave up, I remember crying to my boyfriend every time my son was hungry. It was only one nipple that hurt and I wanted to wean him from the shield so I had to deal with the pain. I eventually went to my OB and they gave me a prescription nipple cream which helped and eventually I felt normal. But this obviously doesn’t happen to everyone.

My baby had a very shallow latch, the first week or 2 it hurt badly & I almost gave up on breast feeding all together. But I'm glad i didn't cause now her latch is great, there's no pain and I love breast feeding
