Probiotics while Pregnat

Mrs.

Hellos ladies!

I am in need of some advice. I am 7 weeks pregnant and 5 days, and today I received a phone call today from my doctor, and she said that I have a UTI. So she prescribed antibiotics, but not only did she say I have a UTI, they found traces of E. Coli :(

And on top of that I need to take probiotics.

I am obviously in distress due to the news...I am a very clean person. I clean any food I cook, clean my surfaces with Clorox. My family and Husband said it could be maybe food I ate at the school I work, or maybe something I got from the students.

I do drink water, so I think I might need to drink more to prevent anymore UTIs.

Has anyone ever gotten any news like this?

What kind of probiotics did you guys take that were okay to take?

I feel as though my doctor wasn't very helpful. I was at work when I received her call, and she told me this news.

I'm sorry your doctor didn't do a great job explaining all of this. Definitely address this the next time you see them. I'll try to help as I would my own patients.First of all the UTI was caused by bacteria. In your case this bacteria was e coli. It can't be contracted by something you ate and travel to your urinary tract. If it was contracted by contact it was likely from improper wiping... Or it may have been from other factors like dehydration, infrequent urination, etc.Second- your immunity is weakened during pregnancy and can make you more susceptible to infection. Stress can also cause this. It is likely a contributing factor.Third- skip the probiotics and just eat yogurt daily! It is good protein during pregnancy anyways and can help with blood sugar fluctuations. If you do take probiotics look for lactobacillus.Good luck!

Thank you so much for you respond. I was a little skeptical about the probiotics.

This is actually pretty normal for pregnant women. Some women are more susceptible to UTIs while pregnant and it doesn't have anything to do with being "clean". I would just focus on wiping correctly (front to back) and peeing after sex to help reduce reoccurring issues. You may continue to get them even if you do. As far as the probiotic goes it's simply healthy bacteria that you already have in your gut but because of the modern diet our levels are much lower than they should be. You can eat yogurt with actuve cultures but this is not the same as taking a probiotic. I'd recommend just buying a good over the counter probiotic. I take my Advocare probiotic daily and it keeps me regular and gets rid of my bloating and overall discomfort I usually had before.

Honestly instead of taking the probiotic pill, just eat yogurt. That’s what I did and I’m also lactose intolerant and i got my calcium intake by eating yogurt 😂

E. coli is probably the bacteria that caused your UTI, it's not caused by anything you ate it's most likely from not wiping correctly
