Class pet

Mary • My beliefs and opinions are constantly evolving

My sister is in this program at school called Pathways. It’s all over the place rn, but that’s beside the point. This girl got a hamster as the class pet, and people are mistreating it so badly. The girl who bought the hamster even said “I don’t care what happens to him, even if he dies.”

Hamsters are nocturnal, so it sleeps the whole school day, but people are constantly taking him out of his cage and hold him and tapping him roughly. Some girls even dropped him, but caught him by his leg and continued to hold him like that while taking pictures of him. My sister takes him home for the weekend since no one else wanted to, and she has over 7 years of experience with rodents, no one in the class does at all. Sometimes students try to take the hamster home for the weekend even though they aren’t allowed to, and it’s always the people who roughly handle the poor guy.

People look like they actually want to jump my sister when they see her take the hamster home, and it’s crazy bc most of the people who cry or want to hurt my sister are seniors, just bc she takes the hamster home.

The hamster has even started biting people in the class, and now runs away and climbs the cage or just freaks out and runs away when he just sees someone hands. The hamster has become traumatized or something!

The students don’t listen to the teacher btw... I’m not sure if this is really controversy, but my sister and I aren’t sure what to do in this situation. We want to tell the principle, but then she’ll send the hamster to our animal program, and they also treat animals like crap there.

Not sure what to do here to stop people from literally throwing around a hamster for entertainment 🤦🏻‍♀️
