Bleeding after pap?

So I had a Pap smear today...AF is due next week, but hopefully doesn’t show her face. Anywho, I’ve always had slight spotting after my paps a few hours after getting them. Today though...there was so much blood during the pap, my doctor had to clean up the floor and gave me wipes to clean up and a pad to put on. He said it could be where I am in my cycle or I could be pregnant...has this ever happened to anyone?
