I opted out of mine. Don't find it necessary I have them done at my 6 week post partum check up. But I also don't let them do a pelvic exam or check for dilation until I'm in active labor. Only thing they do is the group b strep swab test later in pregnancy. Studies show that more women are going into labor early due to the constant interruptions to the cervix with checks. However it's not a huge deal and by early I'm talking around 37-39 weeks because of dialation checking which tells you nothing really about when baby is coming. So I just opt out.

They caught me by surprise when they did a pap at my 9 week appointment.. I did it and everything came back fine but i wasn't prepared for it they didn't tell me I'd get one at my appointment that day.

I would get it done because if you have certain infections it can harm and even end a pregnancy.

I declined, but only because I had already had one this year at my usual lady visit. My Midwife said I was ok to wait until 3 years like usual.

I did it with my first pregnancy and didn't have an issue. This time I'd had mine done as part of my annual a few months before I got pregnant so I got to skip it. It doesn't pose a risk.

I decline during pregnancy.  I also refuse dilation checks even through labor. I was checked once my last labor when I started pushing to make sure I was completely dilated before I started trying to push my son out.

Honestly don't see what's wrong with getting it done.. don't you want to check that everything is okay?!

It's not that bad at all. Just relax and ask them to use the smaller tool if it helps for you to feel more comfortable. Trust me i was terrified as well but it went very well.
