My sons dad and I broke up when I was pregnant. And although he signed his rights away (my suggestion we both agreed, long story) we are still really good friends and he went on to have more kids and so do I and our kids get together all the time and I'm best friends with his fiancé. 
I think just because people didn't work out romantically doesn't mean they can't be friends. Being good friends right away would all depend on the people and the situation though.

Ive been friends with a,couple of mine. The first one was the main person to be there for me when my grandma died. The other we were good friends before we dated but hes either really sweet or a complete ass so depends on his mood whether i can be friends with him. The others werent good break ups so i didnt wanna be friends.
