Replace or not??

Question

If a family members child ruined something of yours that wasn't cheap.. would you expect them to replace it?? My nephew ruined my brand new Jaclyn hill Morphe palette that I got barely a week ago.. and my sister is acting like nothing happened.. I told her I want her to give me the $45 to replace it and she won't respond to me. What would you do in a situation like this? 
He also completely ruined my Nicole Guerrero glow kit in this same day (it was already messed up but I had fixed the shades with alcohol).. help!

Yes, I’d ask her to replace it. He’s still really young so I doubt he knows that what he was doing was wrong. It was his mom’s responsibility to watch her child, and she didn’t so - yes, she should replace it. Those palettes are also really expensive too so if she refuses I’d let her know how much they cost and how hard they are to replace especially when you’ve just gotten it.

Any time I have broken something or otherwise ruined something of someone else's I have paid for it. I don't have children, but I would do the same with them as well if they had broken someone else's item (especially if they were close friend/family as I wouldn't want to cause awkwardness or resentment by not paying).

It depends on circumstances. Did you leave it laying out where you know he plays, or did he get into your things you had put away?

If the kid broke it in a store or broke a strangers then the mother would replace it. It makes no difference that you’re not a stranger. Yes I would expect the mother to replace it, no matter how small.

One of my cousins ruined my iPad protector/case thingy a couple of years ago. That thing was brand new so of I told my aunt&uncle; what had happened and they got me a new one. 
I think she should definitely buy it or give you the money.

I'd replace it for you on behalf of my child. As parents we need to take responsibility for our children if they're to young to understand if he's old enough to then he should replace it himself!

If you left your products in the reach of a two year old it's kinda your fault as well. The items that were destroyed were materialistic and would be replaced once used anyways so I don't see this as being a total devastation. Granted yes they cost you a good amount of money but they weren't sentimental items that either are priceless or cost a large sum to replace. Ya can't demand someone replace your stuff if left it where a toddler could ruin it. My niece ruined the lenses of a $350 pair of costa Del Mar sunglasses. I didn't demand my sister replace them cause I left them where a toddler could easily reach them. Yea I was upset but I knew better then to demand money from family cause I was partially at fault for leaving them out. But hey. If you think a toddler should be responsible for getting in to something that's you.

I'd say it depends. if you left it where said child could get it, I wouldn't think she should have to replace it. And I don't think she should have to replace it if the child messed it up and she volunteered to pay for it then you say not to worry about it (but yet you still expect her to pay for it).
