Do you ever worry about your "own side" taking things too far?

Question

I guess the question here is: do you ever think your "side" in politics (or whatever) may take things too far? Or needs to be held back a little bit? Or maybe is flirting with things that could be taken too far? 
Example: I'm very liberal, and am proud of it. But there are tendencies and elements on the left that do worry me sometimes. Like, there are people I love who are passionate about injustice, but I worry about the fact that they will praise left-wing totalitarianism and dictators, and won't acknowledge abuses or awful oppressions by the same. It's like they've embraced so wholeheartedly the idea of apocalyptic fights between good and evil for the fate of the world that they've lost the sight of the fact that the enemy of my enemy is not always your friend.  (Personally, I'm opposed to totalitarianism and dictators, regardless of their politics. Once it becomes an issue of sending people up against the wall, it's only a matter of time and circumstance before you end up there too.) 
I'm really curious about conservative opinions here, too. I know that I'm not the only liberal who thinks this way - I mean, the liberal side of things is pretty famous for being like a herd of cats and defaulting to being more critical of each other than they are anyone else. But if you're conservative, do you ever look at some of the cherished conservative sacred cows and go, "actually, this could go really badly and I don't want to see it go all the way"?

There’s one phrase I saw Democrats post during the last election that bothered me. “Vote blue no matter who”. The concept of voting for anyone based on their party and not their platform is absurd to me. And if republicans did the same thing I’d be saying the same thing. 
Aka: this is not a dig at Democrats at all, but the concept that you vote via party lines and not on actual candidates, the Democrat example is just the first that comes to mind.

I have been a republican voter for the last 16+ years. 
  
I feel the Republican Party is completely out of control and has gone too far on a number of topics. The only good I can see left in the party, isn't worth it anymore to me. 
  
I have seen many of my relatives and friends move to the middle. I feel like I have no other option than the middle. 
  
So yes I worry, the far right republicans I know are unhinged. They spew off racist comments so naturally it is sickening, they have arsenals and have no reason for it. They don't value education, as many of them either didn't make it past HS or had someone paying their way, and most of them have no relationship with any God where the religious aspect could be at play. 
   
Yes I worry, and I have been putting distance there. Every interaction leaves my head spinning and me pushed further to the middle.

I greatly dislike that democrats are moderate pushovers. I want more Elizabeth Warrens. People who aren't swayed by money (which I guess applies to any party).
I'm so incredibly tired of people who identify as liberal or anything really, who know something is wrong (such as denying same sex marriage) but insist that it's "not the right time", "too soon", "we can compromise". No. There is no compromise with hatred. When you permit it it grows and festers. It's why we see a rise in "alt right" numbers. 
Hating racism is in no way the same as hating another person of color because you are racist. Hating neo nazi rhetoric is in no way the same as wishing for ethnic cleansing on minorities. It is incredibly annoying and damaging to see any democrats or liberals insist that all hate is equal. When you attempt to please everyone you get nowhere and make matters worse. 
When I identified more conservative in middle school to early high school I was almost immediately turned off by the amount of vitriol of the party. The allowance and in many cases support for discriminatory laws, acts of violence, obsession with ignoring stats was a huge turn off. I felt at first like the party would be about keeping the US healthy first, but it was apparent by their blocks and suggestions that they give zero fucks about healthcare, women and minorities. Worse so was that because of their actions the Republican Party has made human rights a party debate when it shouldn't be. It unfortunately also alienates conservatives, like me at the time, that support equal rights and better education, healthcare etc. 
When I say democrats or conservative I don't necessarily mean the individual, but the main heads of the parties, as their spot in the light has far more impact than a random man in Nevada saying something. It is their job to help this country be better, so it is even more a bitter pill to swallow when they choose not to.

I think you have to look at it as 5 options, not just 2. Extreme left, left, moderate, right, extreme right. Extremism is dangerous.

What totalitarian dictators to liberals praise? I've never done that so no. 
I do think finding common ground can be more important than being ideologically right at times.

I'm basically a Marxist who can't stand Tankies, i.e. people who think Stalin did nothing wrong. I don't like communists who try to justify what he did, instead of admitting that situation was a huge problem that needs to be addressed amongst leftists and avoided as much as possible. 
And while I wouldn't say it was more "extreme" my first exposure to socialism was very much about brocialists and manarchists who didn't care to think of any issues in regards to women and minorities, which left a sour taste in my mouth. Thats one of my other huge issues even though it's not really an issue with extremism.

I'm shocked there are people who say no. Isn't that in itself evidence that you take things too far and think your side is superior to the other?
I'm conservative and I absolutely think that extremes on any side are horrible and harmful to our country.
It's just the sake on the dem side.  You can't have it too far on either side or you're just taking a stance because it's a party platform.

I consider myself fiscally conservative and socially moderate. I often vote Republican but did vote for Obama in his first term (granted I was living in NYC at the time and the state would have gone for him with or without me, lol) but not his second. I think I was just that much younger and not firm in my beliefs yet.
I have my concerns about both sides, but since I side more Republican I can say that I find that some political speech on that side centers arguments around a religious viewpoint that does not align with what I consider to be sound arguments. I am personally religious myself but I don't base social issues on what the Bible literally or figuratively says.. I prefer arguments where the constitution is the key. Frankly I think almost any social issue could have a compelling debate on either side without God being in the discussion. I base a lot of my social perspective on what I see as fair, decent, and equal.

Although I tend to vote democratic, I do not define myself that way. I am registered independent and always try to look at both perspectives. 
The media (especially social media) has basically thrown away journalism’s code of ethics. “Truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and public accountability.” Each side does this. It is VERY difficult to find information that is impartial. 
I have never in my (short) lifetime seen so many people divided and vicious toward each other in politics.
