Cartilage piercing area turning gray! Why? What can I do?

What can I do to get rid of the grayish/dark area around the piercing hole?? I don't like it :( good thing it's in my ear and not my nose. How do I get rid of the hyper-pigmentation? Why did it happen so I can avoid it? Thanks

the problem is the jewelry. it's tarnishing your skin and that can end up being permanent. you need to buy something higher quality, labelled "Implant Grade" titanium or steel. nothing "surgical" or "stainless". some good brands to look for at a shop or online are BVLA and anatometal. going to see a reputable piercer is also a great step. (check for APP membership)

Maybe go back to the place you got it pierced and see what they tell you to do? I’ve had my cartilage pierced for about two years now and I’ve never had this problem. Hopefully it goes away!!
