Planning a Baby on Public Assistance?

What are your thoughts on people who are on food stamps or other government assistance and purposely plan to expand their family? Is it fair?

as much hate as I know this is going to get, if you're asking me to essentially pay for your child then yeah I have a say and I'm allowed to have an opinion. No I don't think it's fair.

If you can’t afford to support yourself then you can’t afford to support a child. You shouldn’t be counting on public assistance as a means of support for you or your family. It was never meant to be a way of life, just a temporary assistance program and way too many people take advantage of it which puts a strain on all the people who work and pay taxes.

Definitely not. If you can't afford another kid, you shouldn't have one until you can afford it. Accidents happen, but doing it intentionally is pretty selfish.

See, I’m torn on this. 
On one hand, I don’t think it’s very fair to raise a child in a home with an insufficient amount of money and resources.  I also don’t think it’s fair to rely on the government to pay for our own decisions. 
On the other hand, some people work their asses off and still don’t make ends meet and they actually NEED government assistance.  Why should that person not be able to become a parent just because they need some help? Thats what those programs are there for. 
So all in all I think it depends on the situation.

No, it is not fair... why should someone who clearly can't afford to take care of themselves bring yet another child into this world. If they couldn't afford their own food, or own means of life how can they afford extra.. why should I or anyone who is TTC, and yet hasn't, be paying for someone else's child just because I have a good job, my own home and can afford myself and a child while someone else chooses to just sit home, not work and pop out children like a pez dispenser. Now do not get me wrong, if your already pregnant, or have a child and something has happened out of your control, loss of a spouse, job etc, yes that is what assistance is there for. To ASSIST you. However, if you just refuse to get a job,keep a job, get a better job to support yourself, or better your self with continued education just to receive assistance because lazy-itis has taken over, then no.... you do not need to reproduce because this world does not need anymore lazy individuals like you.

If you can't support yourself or the children you already have and you still knowingly attempt to get pregnant you are abusing the system.
If you accidentally get pregnant and you need assistance? Hold that head high.
I have no issue paying for people who need it.  The women I see abusing it are usually younger saying oh but I want kids..... well that's great!  Work towards that. Get an education and a higher paying job.  Downgrade your cars or apartments.

I think everyone’s situation is different and nobody has the right to pass judgment . I know families that work, go to school , have houses etc that need assistance . It’s not just people sitting around abusing the system that need assistance sometimes . At some point the state won’t grant you financial assistance ( this is based off months and each state is diff ) . My best friend has a great paying job , owns a house , is remarried and pregnant with her third . ( her other two were from her ex hubs ) he doesn’t pay child support and our state automatically grants you food stamps to compensate .

I am in the process of getting off public assistance and also TTC. I have gotten off SNAP and cash, and am now only using the remainder of my 1 year of transitional child care assistance.
I will be off all assistance in approximately 6 months. 
I think using child care assistance is ok cause honestly its so hard even with a very good job. 
but snap cash mfip etcdefinintely not fair to the children or other families. its blatant abuse of the system.
