Is Dental Insurance Worth It?

I need a lot of dental work done. 7 fillings and and a root canal possibly, but their going to try to fill it first. They said $2,000... which that’s the most expensive dentist I’ve been to out of the other 3. I was looking at my local income based dentist, because their definitely cheaper. I just don’t know the best route to go.

As a dental assistant yes it is definitely worth it. It usually offers 1-2 free cleanings a year which is a preventative to avoid further issues. Generally covers half of all major procedures and it is not unreasonably expensive to carry dental insurance.

Absolutely get dental insurance. I also need quite a bit of work and I was so grateful for the insurance. I would’ve gone broke without it, lol!

My dental insurance is only like $5/week from my paycheck if that helps you figure out cost. It shouldn't be too expensive

For me it is worth it because we get free cleanings and I just had an extraction a few months ago and it would've cost me $250, but I only had to pay $80. To me that's pretty significant savings. Not sure about fillings, but I'll find that out next time I go because I have a couple of cavities. I will tell you what my dentist told me though about root canals… A root canal is what they do when they think they can save the tooth. However, you may get a root canal and then realize that the tooth still can't be saved. So you may end up needing to have the extraction anyway. So you'll be paying for a root canal and an extraction if the tooth can't be saved. Just thought I'd share that bit of info with you. That's why I chose to do an extraction instead of a root canal and I'm glad I did because after he took the tooth out he said the tooth would not have been able to be saved.
