While my princess sleeps on my chest I have a few moments to write out my birth story
While my princess sleeps on my chest I have a few moments to write out my birth story!
I'm a FTM and I literally never thought I'd go into labor lol all my checks at the end of my pregnancy showed my cervix closed and soft, over and over again. 40 weeks rolled around and my doctor said it's time to plan induction. I have heart failure that strongly runs in my family and being overweight before starting, not to mention your placenta does have an expiration date.

We decided on 10/5 I'd go in and start the vaginal pill that makes you dilate and softens your cervix then come 10/6 morning time should be progressed and ready to go!

Hospital calls at 5:30 and says they are understaffed, come in at 11:30pm. We get in and get situated in our room, hooked up to the monitors and behold - I'm having 60-90 second contractions that are 5/6 mins apart. I never even felt them, I honestly thought that was her movement inside my belly not contractions 🤷🏼♀️
-
Nurse wants to monitor us with my natural contractions for awhile, about an hour later 8 nurses RUN into our room and throw an oxygen mask over my face. I'm like wtf is going on?!? They told me her heart rate drops during each contraction and when the contraction ends - it goes back to normal. Not a good sign, guess what? Now I can't have the cervix softening meds because that will make me have uncontrolled contractions, so they start me on Pitocin. Meanwhile my cervix is a little over 1cm dilated. I never felt pitocin contractions either!
-
We play with pitocin for about an hour and my doctor comes in, shuts it off and says sorry Mama, it's a c section for you two. I'm MORTIFIED, trying to keep myself together in front of my husband. They suit us up, off we go!

The needle to the spinal block was the worst and I mean the worst pain I've felt thus far! Instantly my body is numb from boobs down, doctor comes in - says hello, husband comes in and sits beside me. We're chatting it up and I'm listening to my doctor and her assistant talk about the recent Las Vegas happenings behind the blue curtain, I asked my husband "is she ever gonna start" and he's like, "babe she had already cut into you when I walked in, she's probably close to being finished."
-
The "baby catcher" is standing by my husband and I giving us a play-by-play. She says "oh I can see her head! Oh I can see her shoulders, oh this is not a small baby!" We couldn't help but chuckle!

Braelynn Jane Newman was born on 10/6 @ 8:51 AM, weighing 8.3lbs, 19 inches long. I cried the SECOND I heard her little cry from the other side of the blue curtain. I knew no matter what just happened to me, I have the most beautiful and perfect princess to show for all the anxiety and pain.

Was too scared to take her right away, so my husband got her and we cried like babies! It was such a tender moment right there in the middle of the OR while they finished stitching me up. Now here we are, loving on our little Princess, counting her fingers and toes and making promises to never let her down.
