Epidural vs minimal/no pain meds

With my son I had two shots of morphine and laughing gas and warm water, I don't remember much of the labor or delivery other than I needed my husband, don't remember my son crying cuz I passed out. I'd like to remember more of this labor in 7 months but I'm horribly terrified of needles and always heard epidural a hurt to be done.
