How to Care for a premature baby?

When the baby is discharge what do you actual tell people that visit you? to wash their hands ?? i have family member that come every weekend and im scared for my baby to get sick from them because i know i already got my flu shot and my shot for the whopping cough. but i feel they are gonna get mád if i tell them to get the flu shot and the whopping cough shot. because my aunt gets sick a does not go to the freaking doctor sometimes..

I agree. No visitors for at least two months.... Washing hands isn't effective enough... there's germs from money, cell phones, sitting on your furniture not knowing where people have been.... the list goes on! Everyone claims they're clean but you just don't know! Don't take that risk

i didnt tell anyone when my daughter came home because i didnt want anyone to visit. I also posted stuff on the front door about not coming unannouced and basically tellimg them that her health was more important than them wanting to visit. I did piss people off and a lot of our family still hasnt met her but its completely worth it! BTW did she go home???

Anyone who wanted to visit in the first few months had to have their TDap and Flu shot, and also you had to wash your hands right when you came in our house. My son was full term and we still took that very seriously. 
Some people thought we were ridiculous, oh well... protecting your brand new baby (especially a premie) is way more important than anyone's opinion of you.

When my baby was in the pediatric ICU I saw a baby in there that had caught a severe respiratory infection. I don't know what it was, but if you had heard that poor baby's cough, struggling to breath and seen the looks on the parents faces, it was heartbreaking. Be honest with your family and know in your heart that it is so important to keep your baby safe.

Take a breath momma. Never feel bad for telling anyone even a family member not to visit unless they have had their shots and aren’t sick. A premie is more likely to catch something. Their systems aren’t fully matured. In my opinion I’d wait. Weeks even until the baby is more matured and has had a few rounds of shots. Definitely sanitize your hands. If you smoke I’d shower before handling baby and not kid him or her in the face. Do what makes you comfortable. It’s your child. You do as you feel right momma.
