Maternity leave in America is awful
I just want to rant for a second, friends.
I'm so jealous and upset at how well other countries treat expecting mothers. Due to my not qualifying for FMLA (I work at a company with less than 50 people) my job is not protected when I take my maternity leave.
Because of this, I also get no pay for my leave and have to withdraw from a combination of my sick pay and my PTO.
Due to lackluster benefits this means I will have exactly 10 days before I have to come back to work. The organization I work for is very "old school" and there is no opportunity from me to work from home or reduce my hours.
It's really depressing me knowing I'm going to have to hand my baby over into care after just 10 days.
Has anyone else gone through something similar? I'm having such a hard time figuring out a better solution.
