Disciplining a toddler 😭

Y'all I need advice! My daughter is 16 months old and she has an attitude that won't quit. She's usually a pretty good girl but occasionally she will act out and when I try to correct her it backfires on me. If I smack her hand (I use it this method because my parents did to me and I vividly remember thinking "that hurt I won't do that again" - don't judge) and tell her "no", she gets even more angry and screams and tries to smack me back and tells me "no!". She does the same thing to my husband when he tries to correct her. Any advice?

I understand she is only 16 months old and to some it may be too early to try to discipline this way, but I was raised this way and I firmly believe in it.

Sincerely,

A FTM at her wits end 🤦🏼‍♀️
