Confused af

Ok so my boyfriend and I have been together for just over two years, we live together and have a dog together. Anyway so things have been a little rough recently because he is going through some things and told me we should go our separate ways, but then said he doesn’t want to and everything was fine. I help pay bills and do EVERYTHING around the house. The car I currently have costs me too much money per week so I went and got a new one. I tried to talk to him about it but he said I was making a mistake and wouldn’t listen. Even though I see it as a beneficial thing because I’ll be saving so much money. He said to me today that he isn’t sure he wants to be with me because of it.. which I think is totally over reacting! We both work, and like I said I contribute to everything so I don’t see anything wrong with it. I feel like he is actually going to break up with me over this. Am i in the wrong or is he just being an asshole?

We both love eachother so much and he said he doesn’t want me to move out which is why I’m so confused! My head is a mess right now
