Too early for fertility treatments?

Allison

I am 27 years old and have been TTC for 9 months with no luck. I have always had irregular periods varying in length from 20 to 50 days, but most staying around 30 days.

I have wanted to start trying for several years, but we were finally in a position to start just this last year. Now it seems I will have to keep waiting longer. Because of the irregular periods, I always wondered if it would be difficult, but I guess I was optimistic. After 6 months I went to the doctor to ask about the irregularity and if it might affect conceiving.

The doctor said my ovaries are poly-cystic and put me on some supplements for the last three months. Now he wants to try Gonal-f injections with timed intercourse. I am overwhelmed with the thought of injecting myself and about starting to spend so much money on this. Is it crazy to start with this kind of intervention when it hasn’t even been a year yet? Or does it make sense since there is clearly something off with my ovaries?

For context, I live abroad and the drugs are a lot cheaper here, but still a significant amount. And the possibility of multiples terrifies me!
