We got married almost 3 years ago and we really want to start a family. My husband makes around 65K but because im still a student, a lot of that money goes into my university. But every month we wish I was pregnant but at the same time we are scared because of how much money a baby needs. please let me know your experience.

There’s just way too many factors that go into this to pick one option. Depends on if the baby is breastfed vs formula fed, if the baby has any extra medical needs, cloth diaper vs disposable diapers, if there will be child care costs (which is really dependent on location), and more.

If you wait for a time in your adult life you can afford kids you'll never have them. It's all about budgeting of course. Also, I think if you and your husband are level headed, steady income...you'll make it work because you have to.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I actually finish with my degree next summer so I wont have a baby while at university! I also live in Canada so I dont think I have insurance to pay because of the healthcard and also my husband has a family insurance with his work. I was just wondering if its doable with our income

It honestly depends on how you parent... do you need every gadget? Will you want all brand new things for your baby?... we are quite the minimalists... no nursery, bought a simple IKEA crib that we didn't use for 6 months but splurged on an organic mattress, we buy all secondhand clothing or get hand me downs and we cloth diaper. We bought a new car seat and buy mostly organic food for her to eat and I breastfeed (huge cost savings)... I got a pump handed down from my sister... her highchair is second hand as is all of my carriers but we bought our stroller new. We only bought a bouncy chair no swing or rock and play. We also bought a cheap bassinet and had the stand handed down. It really depends on how you parent. I would guess we spend less than $100 a month on her.

There are a lot of factors. We normally pay less than 200 a month for our daughter, but we also have really good insurance and only $200 in medical bills for her birth. My friend had her baby months before us and they were paying a couple hundred a month just to pay off the medical bills.
We also don't spend a lot on clothes and things - we buy used when we can, I breastfed, and we did baby led weaning and didn't buy hardly any baby specific food.

Lot. lol but yeah kids are expensive doable on a tight budget of course just have to be smart and pay attention to deals and sales. look into all the factors, breastfed (which isn't as cheap as you'd think) or formula, diapers, daycare, food, clothes, toys, if you live wear it snows winter clothes, car seat, strollers carriers, furniture and the fun stuff like bows or hats decor and shoes. if it's something you both want you find a way to make it work.

honestly cost is so variable! formula feeding vs breast feeding, clothe dispersing vs disposable, along with personalized needs. we just spent 150 on baby stuff (diapers(2 ish weeks worth), formula, some new clothes, toys, ect)

Yeah, childcare is a lot.  I’ve been paying $205 a week in Florida and some places it worse.  We waited til we had a decent nest egg before ttc and I’m glad we did.
