Do you get angry when someone touches your things without your permission?
We are currently living with my inlaws, but moving out soon. We moved up some of our boxes of things from our last apartment to look through and toss unnecessary items (since it’s been a while). We did buy some new things, which ended up not fitting in the moving boxes, so I just placed them on top. Everything was sitting in an isolated corner of the house so it wouldn’t get in the way.
My MIL thought it was a great idea to not only rummage through the new items we bought and placed on top of the boxes, but also go through the boxes themselves. She even left the boxes half opened and the other things cluttered around, which I saw when I got home late last night.
I’m generally a very private, protective person with my things and spaces, and found this not only to be unnecessary for her to do but also a complete lack of privacy and respect for our things. Her and I don’t have the best relationship to begin with, so it just came off even worse.
I mentioned it to my husband and he thought nothing of it, saying that I am “kinda overreacting” and there is no reason for me to be mad. My MIL hasn’t looked me in the eyes or said anything to me today. And everything is still cluttered up in the corner.
Honestly, am I wrong to even feel uncomfortable about this?? 😐
