Security cameras?

So I can’t afford a security system but is there anything I can get to monitor things going on outside of my house? We live in a townhome and I’ve notified our police and our security company that patrols the neighborhood at night but I’m looking for something that will maybe notify me if someone’s outside my door or just sitting in there car etc... tips, advice, suggestions TIA
