So I got birth control today- not sure how it works.. so theres 28 pills and then 7 placebo?

So my period ended yesterday- so if i start taking them today will i just not get a period again in november? Does it make your period wait longer if your just starting and just had your period? Im going on a trip on the 25- 2 so if i start tomorrow I wont be on my period during my trip?

Confused please help.
