I just find spanking hypocritical. 
"Don't hit your brother!" 
"To punish you for hitting your brother i am now going to hit you"

Also, I was never once spanked and I never had any discipline problems. I think the "respect" argument for spanking is redicilous. How can ou expect your children to respect you if you don't respect them and their own body?

Initially, no. As a first resort, no. But on certain occasions, in certain scenarios, it can be effective.

I don't agree with any form of violence unless it's in self defense, but that's just me. If you spank your kids, that's your choice. I will choose not to spank them, and that's my choice. No one parents exactly like someone else, and we shouldn't expect them to.

I was spanked by my mother only and I have respect for her. I would spank my kids if they did something horribly wrong but I would also talk to them and explain to them why I spanked them. Most kids are so bad and rebellious to their parents  nd everyone else because they know they can get away with it. Because most parents just ignore what their kids do. And it's really annoying to see them acting up in public and the parents don't do anything about it.
