Starting process

I've never actually tried to conceive. I've always been the make sure not to conceive! But now with me getting older and all my friends with kids, besides the baby fever.. I think I'm ready to start a family with my hubby. We have had discussions many times about it but I've told him I wasn't ready yet and wanted to make sure we can afford to raise the child like we hope to. Now I'm dead nervous of trying to conceive and don't know much on any tricks or what to do to make it a bit easier (possibly).
