This story starts on Wed 11•1•17. I was at my Drs appointment & overdue at 40 + 5 (baby was due on 10•27). I was exhausted and just so ready for babygirl to arrive. My Dr checked my cervix and not to my surprise I was only a fingertip dilated.
SOOO FRUSTRATING!
Anyway my OB decided to try n strip my membranes if she could even get a finger into my cervix. VERY painful 😣 she had to stretch my cervix open to 1cm just to get the tip of her finger in. OUCH! She tried & said she barely did anything and not to be hopeful.
From there she scheduled my induction for the next day 11•2•17 @ 8pm. So now I’m a little excited my baby will be here soon!
The rest of that evening I was so sore from the attempted membrane sweep. Achy & cranky.
Fast forward to the next morning... my husband & I are planning to pack up the car, install the car seat base, do some food shopping etc! My alarm goes off & I get up to pee for the millionth time around 9am I wipe n notice that my discharge is a little watery and pink as my OB said it might be. I’m still achy and have a long list of things to take care of... so I decide to take a bath and hopefully relieve some of my soreness.
I’m waking my hubby up after stepping out of the bath & putting a pad on just incase as I’m pulling my underwear up I fell a huge GUSH of warm liquid come flowing out!
MY WATER BROKE!
I tell hubs to hurry & get a shower in while I call & let the hospital know I’m on the way. One again I have to pee but this time I loose my mucous plug and I could still feel fluid leaking heavily. We leave and my contractions didn’t start till we were halfway to the hospital while I’m on the phone with my older two children’s school arranging their pickup. The contractions were manageable and we arrive check in and get set up in a bed for monitoring. They check to make sure it my water 💦 & it was. They check me & I’m STILL at 1cm 😥 I’m only 25% effaced & they give me an oral medication to help soften my cervix & they install my IV. It’s now 11:30. My contractions are picking up 😫. My husband is holding my hand & applying chapstick to my cracked lips.
Fast forward to 1:00 my monitor starts going off the room fills with nurses and drs. Baby’s heartbeat keeps dipping with contractions they quickly help me over to my left side. Dr thinks she’s laying on her cord. They insert an internal monitor for baby and a tube attached to an IV pushing water around her to lift some of the weight off of the baby. It works her heart rate is back to normal.
It’s 4:00 I’m having trouble breathing through my contractions they give me an oxygen mask & I’m fighting back tears. They check me and let me know I’m only at 2cm. They offer me pain relief. I opt for an epidural as with my other two. The anesthesiologist arrives swiftly. I’m finally able to breathe again.
Around 6:00 I start to feel pressure my husband alerts he nurse. She says that I’m 75% effaced and 6cm dilated.
YAY PROGRESS!
Around 7:15 my epidural had almost completely wore off back to trying to breathe through the pain. They call the anesthesiologist again. He arrives quickly & gives me a higher dosage. It’s barely working. My husband is holding my hand breathing with me at this point...
7:30 ish the nurses switch shifts & come in to introduce themselves to me.
The dr checks me again and I’m at 8cm
WOO HOO! Almost there!
She says just a couple more contractions & we can push. Still holding hubbys hand and trying to breathe.. why is breathing so hard at this point?!?!
Three or four contractions later and dr comes back in I’m finally at 9cm
TIME TO PUSH!
The nurses rush in coaching my breathing & setting up. I start pushing with the next contraction. It actually feels better to push than to try n breathe through the pain. I can feel her body moving down. So much pressure. Another push and everyone’s telling me they can see her hair! ☺️
Two pushes later and I can hear my baby crying! The relief of hearing her cry is like no other. They lay her on my chest and she is just beautiful. Her cry is healthy and my husband and myself are in tears 😭
WE DID IT! (Again) 😂
She was born at 8:05pm (five minutes after my scheduled induction & right on time)
My husband cut her cord & I nursed her soon after... Kassidy is now a week old today & doing great!
