OBGYN or Midwife?

I'm young and new to this!! What do you prefer and why?

I prefer midwives, but in my area they generally still deliver out of a hospital (nearest birth center is 2+ hours away, and home births are not licensed ). Honestly, I'm okay with that, as I've had 2 c-sections and 1 vaginal birth. I feel a bit better having the backup of the hospital.

I think it really is a personal preference. Some women want to plan for an epidural and feel more comfortable at a hospital. Others feel very anxious in a hospital setting. If you can, try interviewing different practices (or if that's not possible, get recommendations from like minded friends). The most important thing is finding someone you feel safe with!

A lot of people prefer midwives because they feel like they get more personalized care and mid levels get scheduled to spend more time with patients on average so they'll spend more time with you at each visit. OBs are higher trained, and equipped to handle more complicated or difficult pregnancies or deliveries. That said, you're young, so you probably are fairly healthy and will probably have a very normal pregnancy. If you choose a midwife and something comes up they can always refer you to an OB or a specialist.

I am going to a midwife practice and I love it. They are so caring and patient and try and answer all my questions since I'm a newly pregnant mom. I am going towards natural birth in the hospital n in birthing pool. Its your choice but I love my midwives practice.

Keep in mind, a lot of midwives go for the natural route. OBGYN's let you choose epidural or no epidural. That choice is up to you!
