I have seen people do different shades of browns, greys, yellows, grey and yellow, beige or light tans, black and white, greens, aquas, aquas and blues. Then when they know the gender decorate in gender specific decorations and or colors.

I worked with a lady who painted one wall a Royal purple and then bought bedding and curtains and what not in combinations of white, royal purple, and golds. They had a boy and then she put a little boy saying wall decal above the changer table, his initials in gold over the bed on the royal purple wall, his bedding sheets were white with gold prince crowns all over them with a royal purple bed skirt and a royal purple comforter with a gold crown and his initials on it and then she made her own mobile out of an old mobile her sister had and some stuff from hobby lobby that was a prince crown with “rubys”, “emeralds”, and “diamonds” hanging from the crown. It played music and spun.

My husband’s friend and his wife did the entire nursery in a grey, yellow, and white stripe theme and then found out their baby was a girl and finished with doing the curtains, bedding, recliner and rug in whites and white laces and then put her initials over the crib in Black letters.

For my daughter we picked out a darker cherry colored crib painted the entire room a light lace white. All the furniture we accrued was all in the same dark cherry color as the crib. I put a dark chocolate recliner in the room that brought out the Browns in the cherry furniture more. Once we found out she was a girl we added pink rose colored stripes to the one wall behind the crib, got her pink red and brown colored bedding, put a pink rug on the floor and a pink matt on the changer table.

My friend did her nursery in whites, blues, and aquas and decided for a girl they would do mermaid and for boy they would do fish and sharks. So she was able to buy a lot of under the sea bedding with like anchors, seashells, and what not that was gender neutral. Some brown fish net for on the window valance. They painted one wall like under the ocean and then when they found out girl they had someone come in and put a giant pinkish oyster with a pearl in it on the bottom left and then a shadow of a mermaid over the crib with her initials.
