my LO is 12 months old wakes up with mucus in his eyes and causes his eyes to be close shut, what can I do to stop it and do anyone know what's causing it?

Wash his eyes every morning first thing with some Iuke warm water on a cotton ball. Wipe from inner eye out the way and then keep repeating with a clean ball - you don’t want to use the same ball so as not to spread infection. Also clean his/her little hands for same reason.  As we know his little ones love to rub their eyes! Repeat before bed also. Putting some breastmilk in the eye could also help otherwise your doctor can give you antibiotic drops for his/her eyes. 
 Could be a blocked tear duct that has become infected , very common.

Sounds like conjunctivitis. If so it’ll need drops. Best to get it seen to as left untreated it can cause permanent damage to the eye.
