first ultrasound??

so my doctor doesn't want to give me an ultrasound until 20 weeks (I'm 5 weeks 4 days now) they are not even going to confirm it, basically going to go off a urine test and my last af. kinda wanna go to another dr. office just to get one done... any advice helps!

its normally done this because from what I understand most insurance will only cover one. I don't like it either but where I live that's the standard

A lot of dr are like this if you aren’t considered high risk. I didn’t have insurance when I first found out due to relocating/losing insurance for no longer being with the company I had it through. So I went to a free pregnancy clinic. Got a urine test done at 5w and a dating scan at 8w. My first ultrasound with my ob isn’t until Wednesday and I’ll be a little over 17 weeks. Then I have my anatomy scan at 19 weeks. And they said probably not another one, unless complications arise, until closer to due date.

my insurance would only cover 2 so I used one for the anatomy scan and then I used one at 40+4 weeks to check the fluid levels. Now I did go to a free women's clinic to get an early one because I wanted to make sure it wasn't an ectopic.

I’m a doc and you get three ultrasounds really. You need one around 6-7 weeks for getting the size/age. Please switch docs if yours is not doing one for you, that’s super weird! Then you can do one for Nuchal translucency around 9 weeks (test for Down syndrome) and then another around 18-20 weeks for fetal anatomy. This is the standard of care and even Medicaid covers all that.

My ob did an 8 week, 11 week and I had 13 week to rule out any trisomy or chromosomal issues with high risk. Then I had a 19 week anatomy scan and at 36 they confirmed position. 20 weeks seems ridiculous.

you don't need a scan done now. you'll see very little...baby is a fetal pole if that's even developed yet hun

the only reason I ask is because I got one with all three of my previous pregnancies at around 8 to 9 weeks to confirm my due date. so that's why I was wondering if it was weird because we will be going to a different hospital.
