Hotdogs?

Question

Are fully cooked hotdogs bad for you while your pregnant? I am craving mac & cheese with hotdogs and someone said hotdogs are a food you shouldn't eat at all.

I think we all freak out way too much about what we can and can't eat during pregnancy. Thirty years ago, no one thought twice about this stuff. It's my understanding that the issue with hot dogs is the same as lunch meat (Listeria risk), so cooking them should make them just fine to eat. Sure, they're not great for you. But, they're fine in moderation. The funny thing to me about all of the Listeria risk stuff is that Listeria outbreaks the last 5 years or so have almost all been with fruits and vegetables (well- ice cream too). Your doctor certainly isn't going to tell you to stop eating fruits and veggies!

Lunchmeat and hot dogs are fine as long as they are heated thoroughly!  My OB says just use common sense and eat them in moderation. I love Nathan's hot dogs and eat them once a week.

They are actually more concerned about avoiding the nitrates in hot dogs, than listeria. I like Applegate Farms brand, they are all natural and nitrate free.

"They say" not to because of the fillers, like nitrate or something like that(aka the chemicals) but I agree that things in moderation are fine.

I've read you're not supposed to eat lunch meat and hot dogs during pregnancy because of the nitrates in them. I was craving a hot dog the other day too and I had one lol I just try not to indulge too often!
