As a babysitter do you think they are obligated to care for a sick child or should the parent?

So I babysit a family member and this child has a contagious virus. I’m also pregnant and I said I cannot watch a sick child. I’m being asked over and over to watch the child. I feel like this is wrong because I’ve already said no, I don’t want to risk getting myself or my family sick. Is this wrong?

It’s not wrong for them to ask but it is wrong for them to keep asking after you said no

You're pregnant.... I wouldn't even go to a family members house who was feeling "ill"  while I was pregnant....

This is one of those cases where expectations should have been discussed. If this is a formal business arrangement--such as you babysit during the week while the parents go to work--then the parents may have the expectation that you would watch their child for most illnesses. Daycares accept kids in class as long as there is no fever, diarrhea or vomiting, and they may expect the same of you. Particularly if you provide in-home care and this is the only child you watch. However, with you being pregnant I understand your concern. Most illnesses aren't harmful, but some can be depending on the stage of development. Everyone needs to be clear about expectations and what you can/can't do, so that all parties can decide what is best for them.

I leave it up to our nanny.
If the nanny is sick, she lets me know and I keep my child with me (the perks of working from home)
If baby is sick, I let the nanny know and it’s up to her whether she takes her or not. 
It’s your right to say no.

If it were me I would say no. I swap child care with a friend and we have family watch our kids if they're sick, even if it's not ideal and it's last-minute and requires rearranging.

I mean you’re allowed to say no?? Just stop working for them. Put your own health first.
In general though if you agree to babysit a child who is sick obviously that means being responsible for the illness too. But no you don’t HAVE to, you’re allowed to decline.
