What do I do :(

Question

I really like this guy and he likes me too, but I’m a vegan (he knows this) and he’s not a vegan.. he’s also a recreational hunter. I’m torn on what to do :(

Ah that’s hard, I could date an omnivore but I couldn’t date someone who hunted for fun. I dunno what to tell you lol

When my husband and I first started dating we both ate meat. A few months after we got married I became vegetarian, then a year later, full blown vegan. 
It was kind of frustrating at the beginning making two separate meals. I was always afraid of undercooking the meat so I finally told him he could either eat my meals with me or he’d have to cook his own food. He cooked his own stuff for a while but then decided it wasn’t worth the hassle. Then he decided he’d just eat meat when we ate out.
Now the only time he eats meat is when he’s at drill and doesn’t have a choice (he’s in the Marine Corps and they don’t always have vegetarian MREs/don’t have veggie options when they bbq). 
Not going to lie, as much as I wanted him to give up meat I felt guilty that I kind of forced it upon him. He actually doesn’t mind now and told me he prefers not to eat meat. He’ll get the random craving but he finds that when he indulges it he feels like crap.
Sorry for the story but basically, it’s a process and he may be willing to change his eating habits if it’s important to you. I know people will hunt for the meat (whether they donate/sell/use it themselves) but I couldn’t be on board for hunting just for fun. Everyone is different though so you have to decide what you’re okay and not okay with.

I couldn’t do it. Veganism is score value for me, and if I don’t have values that match my partner’s, then it’s a mismatch.

My husband eats meat but not at home. I cook vegan and he loves what I make. the hunting thing would be a deal breaker for me though

I find living in together that this type of lifestyle difference is a problem. Means two sets of meals usually and not sure if you want children but what would their diet be? For me it's a deal breaker. Just my 2 pence.

Live and let live. You cannot control the actions of other people. Be a positive influence and a source of inspiration, but know that's all you can do. If it bothers you so much then my advice is move along.

Man, that's tricky. Guess it's really up to you? Are your feelings for him strong enough for you to turn a blind eye on those things?

I personally wouldn’t date a hunter as it would show me that our values and outlook on something very important to me don’t match. Saying that, people can and do change. You have to work out if you’re willing to take that chance, or potentially live with that forever. 🙂

My husband is omni and I'm vegan. No problem at all as long as he's respecting it. 😉
