5 week old with 7oz gain since birth
Sorry this is so long!!
So my daughter was 7lbs 3ozs at birth, lowest weight was 7lbs. At her 2 week appointment to check her weight, she was 7.4. Then today, a little over two weeks later, shes 8lbs. So a total of a pound in a month. My dr isnt too concerned because she is thriving, but he still wants to see her in another two weeks to check her weight again.
I was nursing her the first week, and thats when she went down to 7lbs which is to be expected i know. The 2nd week i pumped a bottle fed her so i knew what she was getting and she gained 4ozs. Then from her last appointment until today she was being pumped and bottle fed except for the last 2 days where i started nursing her again to get my supply back up (i was pumping 1-1.5 ozs from my right and 1-2 ounces from my left. Enough to feed her but i want extra to store)
From a bottle shes eating about 2-3 ozs but is averaging 2.5ozs every 2 1/2- 3 hours . I usually let her eat until she falls asleep, but sometimes with 3 she spits up some.
Anyway, im not too concerned about her weight gain. I know from bottle feeding shes getting atleast 2-3 ounces, i just have no clue how much shes actually eating when i nurse her, which i feel might be where the problem is. I think she may have a lip and tongue tie because she loses her latch, has clicking noises when shes eating (from both breast and bottle) and it takes her a little bit to get latched. My friends children both had ties and her daughter was diagnosed FTT because of it. She cant diagnose but she things my daughter has ties. Havent brought it up with her dr yet because im okay pumping and bottle feeding which she seems to have more success with anyway.
Like i said, im not concerned about her weight gain because i know shes not hungry, shes thriving and shes healthy, im more concerned the dr is going to 1: think theres something wrong with her. 2: think that im not feeding her (which i doubt he will) or 3: tell me she needs formula (which i dont care if she does need it, but i know she doesnt because she is actually eating breastmilk. I have no issue with formula feeding, i just want a healthy fed happy baby)
Has anyone else gone through this or something similar? Was their something wrong with babies digestive system or was baby just a small baby? Just looking for other stories.
