Kill them with kindness?

Question

...Okay, so more than 30% people from Scandinavia have confirmed that the qouete: Kill them with kindness, is one of the most meaningful & powerful sentence to always keep it in your mind. 
But what does it really mean? I have asked both my family and friends and everybody is telling me diffrent things that I can’t really agree with. 
Like: Imagen that somebody is yelling at you, instead of you yelling back you could just stand and smile and that will make them more angry. 
But I feel if I would have done that to somebody I know, they would just step over me and counting to treat me bad? 
What does ”kill them with kindness” mean for you? I am really trying to figure this out, so I would LOVE your respond even if it something that would not make any sense.

We believe this in Buddhism as well. 
I'll try and shorten this as much as I can lol 
"Angered and displeased, he went to the blessed on (Buddha), and on arrival insulted and cursed him with rude, harsh words. 
When this was said, the Blessed One said to him: "What do you think, Brahmin: Do friends and colleagues, relatives and kinsmen come to you as guests?"
"Yes, Master Gautama, sometimes friends and colleagues, relatives and kinsmen come to me as guests."
"And what do you think: Do you serve them with staple and non-staple foods and delicacies?"
"Yes, sometimes I serve them with staple and non-staple foods and delicacies."
"And if they don't accept them, to whom do those foods belong?"
"If they don't accept them, Master Gautama, those foods are all mine."
"In the same way, Brahmin, that with which you have insulted me, who is not insulting (not returning the insults/not insulting back); that with which you have taunted me, who is not taunting; that with which you have berated me, who is not berating: that I don't accept from you. It's all yours, Brahmin. It's all yours.
"Whoever returns insult to one who is insulting, returns taunts to one who is taunting, returns a berating to one who is berating, is said to be eating together, sharing company, with that person (on the same level as that person/just as bad as that person) But I am neither eating together nor sharing your company, Brahmin. It's all yours. It's all yours."
Anger comes from pain. Someone who is angry all the time, is someone who is in pain. So it's even more important to treat that person with kindness and compassion. Because you very well may be the only one who has done so in a long time. 
When you return insults to someone, you are feeding the fire. You are creating more anger between the both of you. Which solves nothing. Treating them with kindness sort of disarms them. It takes them off guard, and it helps to calm them down and make them realize "wow. I'm being a dick. But this person is STILL being nice to me. Wtf" 
A lot of the time when I use this strategy myself, the person ends up apologizing. 
And hopefully, this person will then go out and do the same for others. Treat them kindly even when they are firing shots. And that is how we spread peace. 
Another example - when I was in beauty school one of our teachers told us about a lady who came into his salon. He treated her nicely, gave her extra services for free, just because. And she left. A couple weeks later she came back and thanked him. She told him that she had been planning to kill herself. That she had wanted to look good for her funeral. But his one act of kindness made her change her mind.

i interpret it as if someone is horrible or rude to you, you take the high road. you be civil and kind (to the best of your ability) and do your best. your success and happiness will break them emotionally

I'm American and I read it just fine. killing them with kindness isn't smiling when you're being yelled at. it means to be positive and be a blessing to that angry person or negative person that's what it means to me. It's actions but not exactly expressions if that helps explain it better. being kind can be just buying some stranger who has no money a meal, that's kindness and it doesn't have to be towards that person. It's a way of life like a lifestyle to kill with kindness. I hope that helps you understand a bit better what it means
