If you know you're having a boy, do you plan to circumcise?

In most countries around the world, circumcision for non-religious reasons is considered brutal. The US is one of the few countries where people regularly circumcise for a non medical or religious reason. Things are apparently shifting and close to half of baby boys born in the US are no longer circumcised. Thoughts?

I think it's completely unnecessary. My husband is not circumcised and I've never had any infections or anything because guess what... He actually keeps himself clean! If there is no medical reason then why would you do it? It just baffles me. All this reducing the risk of cancer and everything is just rubbish. Why is America the only country who practise it if it is that much of a lifesaver? I understand it's a common practise in the USA but it really is just unnecessary.

I just read this, it's not convincing me really :-

The claim that the presence of the foreskin increases the risk of prostate cancer, and therefore that all men ought to be circumcised, was first made in the 1940s by a cranky American doctor called Abraham Ravich, who believed that the disease was less common among his Jewish patients than in others. He managed to get a couple of articles published in American medical journals (always so hospitable to anti-foreskin propaganda), and in his old age compiled and self-published a whole book, Preventing VD and Cancer by Circumcision, in which he extolled the Mosaic code as the key to good health and a long life. A series of subsequent studies failed to find any association between lack of circumcision and increased risk of prostate cancer, however, and in its 2010 policy statement on circumcision the Royal Australasian College of Physicians noted tersely: “This association [between lack of circumcision and prostate cancer] has not been consistent, and more recent reviews have failed to confirm it.” This is a polite way of saying that the claim of a connection is bullshit.

Nope. Had it done with my first because I wasn't knowledgeable about it, I just knew it was the "normal" thing to do.

After looking more into it, if we have another boy I'm not getting it done. It only decreases the risk of UTI by 1% and they can be avoided by teaching your. Hild how to properly wash. There's been no ACTUAL proof that it decreases the risk of cancer, and getting an STD is almost always preventable. If you simply teach your child to practice safe sex, require their partner to be checked and get checked themselves on a normal basis then their risks for getting anything is greatly reduced.

I will not circumcise again unless it's necessary.

And this whole doing it to "prevent disease/cancer" is ridiculous. Women have a chance to develop breast/ovarian/ cancer yet none of these are removed at birth. Women also have a higher chance of developing UTIs than men, but are we clipping off their labia/clitoral hoods? No.

It's not necessary to go to these preventive measures for women, so why do so with men?

If my child develops an issue, it'll be handled then, or if he chooses HIMSELF to have it done.

And that's my personal stance on it.

Today is the anniversary of a court in Germany announcing that unless it's for religious reasons, baby boys' penises are to be left intact until they are adults and free to choose. It's considered an assault on the integrity of their person and body. I tend to agree.

I say yes from personal experience. I dated a man and I kept getting reoccurring yeast infections due to him not being circumcised as the skin holds bacteria. Also it causes discomfort sometimes to the Male....

Seems an odd thing to me. I'm from the UK and it's not the normal thing to do, I wonder why it's so different in America. If there were that many health benefits and it being such a minor operation (excuse me being flippant but the general consensus is that it's quick and they heal fairly fast, hardly any pain etc) why don't they offer it as standard practice in other parts of the world I wonder?

I'm not having a boy but if I was I was defiantly get him circumcised because he's gonna end up doing it himself when he gets older anyway and if he has a social media account when he gets in his teens he's probably gonna see some penis and if he sees one he's gonna feel left out that his doesn't look like others do lol
