Would you let a smoker hold your newborn?

Question

Trying to find a balance between being insane and also listening to research on third hand smoke and the impacts to newborns.
So the question is- would you let a smoker (let’s say it’s a grandma) hold your newborn?

If I can smell them without being right next to them, then no. If they don’t reek of tobacco, then yeah.

Wash hands. Don’t smoke for a while before entering (or vape if you can’t survive without nicotine). Bring a shirt or wear the hospital gown/scrubs

I see thirdhand smoke as unavoidable. Like pollution germs etc. I wouldn't willingly immerse my child in a terrible environment (letting someone babysit who smokes around baby or in the house or something) but I would never deny a relative or close friend an opportunity to hold baby just because they'd smoked in the clothes they're wearing. Our babies are exposed to countless bad things, I'm not saying they have zero effect but I honestly think the bubble lifestyle is way worse

There is actually such a thing as third hand smoke that is a result of smoke on clothing, etc. So, no. There is absolutely no person in my life that is more important than my newborn's health. If someone wants to smoke, they have to deal with the consequences 🤷🏼‍♀️

I always have clean receiving blankets with me so that if ny mom wants to hold our youngest (almost 4 months), that she can put the blanket on her shoulder (folded in half, so it's not as thin). but definitely not if she just came in from having one.

I ask that my in laws don’t snuggle the baby up to their shoulder, but I do let them hold them for a few minutes. While ideally they’d change their shirt, the fact of the matter is that unless you buy them clothes to keep at your house, everything they’d change into still has smoke on it. For what it’s worth, my kids great grandmas (all 3 of them) smoke like chimneys and held my boys as newborns without any adverse reactions. My kids actually have worse problems from perfume than smoke.

Hand wash and jacket off then yes! No way after just coming in from smoking..
I used to smoke and would never dream of holding someone’s baby after having a cigarette.
