Punishment for child endangerment?

I am in Alberta Canada and last year we had a story hit headlines. A family from a small down close to me had their small child die. These people are natural-path  believers. Their 19 month old son was sick for two weeks. They went to natural path doctor and a nurse and were told to seek medical help. They only got medical help when their little boy stopped breathing. He did pass away. The father went to jail for 3 weeks and got out on bail. He is now going back to jail because he was found guilty...... 
In his news post he decided to tell the world his wife is PREGNANT and due today. So they are having another child before any of this is cleared up and their court is even done.. . I believe the mother got house arrest so she could be at home with their other kids
David is claiming the ambulance was not properly equipped to save his sons life and it was not their fault to make him breath again when he stopped breathing before the ambulance was called. I believe the closest ambulance was 40 minutes away in another town

Feel free to go look up the news articles and what not. But I wanna know what your opinion is on this. 
I personally think that the kids should be taken away and they should both get punished and once that’s over they can seek parenting classes and go through the necessary steps to gain custody back.

They should have gotten help sooner, their baby suffered for two weeks. TWO WEEKS. This is what happens when you can't separate your child's well being and your pretentious beliefs. Bet not one of their kids even have vaccines😒😒😒

I have no issues with people being homeopathic but if even the homeopathic drs are telling them to seek other medical attention... that’s when you shove everything you believe in out of mind & take your baby to a damn hospital. 
While their baby did pass away & that’s awful & very sad. I don’t believe they should go to prison for years & years. 
Despite, they’re still grieving the loss of a child of whom they thought they were doing the best for. 
As unfortunate as it is I hope this is a lesson to them. That they realize their practices are not always best & they don’t repeat their mistakes a second time. 
It’s not meant to cure any illness or conditions on a large scale.

The ambulance wasn't properly equipped? so what about the thousands of times those same ambulances have saved lives previously? What a load of shite . He didn't get medical attention in time for his poor child that's a fact . They're not equipped with the responsibilities of being parents.  If your child is hanging on for dear life then all your opinions of 'natural 'care go out the window. Regardless he could of given his child CPR and even if he didn't know how to do it your instinct would kick in . 100% a manslaughter case here.

They should have all their kids taken away, and any future kids as well. Clearly this is medical abuse, and why would you hand kids right back to the abusers? I mean, yeah sure you don't have to run to the doctor for EVERY little sniffle or sneeze, but after 3 or 4 days it's probably best to give an actual medical professional a phone call. That poor baby had to SUFFER until he died because of their ignorance.

These people are playing with fire by appealing their case. They were VERY LUCKY to get the sentences they did. 
I feel bad for them, i really do, losing a child is awful *but* their negligence led to their child's death, it is a fact proven by law. 
They continue to further prove their ignorance and i worry for their other children. One can only hope that deep down these people learnt a lesson in this whole process and if one of their kids gets a severe illness they get them the help they need in a timely manner.

I agree that they should’ve known to get medical attention. I’m all for home remedies and natural medicine but the first thing I do is call the nurses line to help assess if my daughter should be seen by a doctor or if I can try things at home first. As a mom I would know if my child was sick enough before they stopped breathing. It’s a heartbreaking story. Saying all of that, I don’t think they had any malicious intent so if anything it should be a case of negligence causing death and taking away their other children will not bring their boy back nor will it create a better life for their children. I doubt this will ever happen again. There children are well cared for in all other aspects and it’s only their belief in medical care that led to this terrible incident. It’s a fine line... there was another news story about an indigenous girl who was diagnosed with cancer but wanted to stop treatment and only try traditional healing which was a part of her family’s belief system... her family had to fight in court to have the rights to do this as it was a part of their cultural/religious beliefs... the girl did end up passing away but they won the court battle... so I wonder why this is so different. I don’t think they should be punished but should maybe have to attend classes or seminars and have regular doctor appointments scheduled.

Their kid died from meningitis, due to their beliefs they refused to take the kid to a doctor or hospital and fed him water through an eyed dropper. 
He was sentenced to 6 months in jail originally, the prosecutors challenged that and it has dragged on since. Also they moved to BC to get out of house arrest and jail time so Alberta and BC are now trying to figure out what to do about them.

Court ordered parenting classes and doctor visits? Yes. 
I don’t think they went out of their way to maliciously cause the death of their child. I think they’re highly uneducated and need to be taught that sick kids go to the effing doctor because modern medicine would have saved that little ones life had they went.

It is medical negligence. Failing to provide proper medical treatment to a dependent (in the US) is illegal, not to mention morally abhorrent.
