Any other Mommas have GERD?

Question

So I went to the dr. yesterday with severe chest pain, sore throat & loss of voice. He told me I have GERD which is like really bad acid reflux. I'm now taking Zantac & tums as needed. 
If you have/had it what did you do to help? Do the symptoms get better after the initial pain of it? I'm only 27 wks I can't imagine being in this much pain for the rest of my pregnancy. This girl better come out covered in hair!

I have had reflux issues since I was 20 due to a hiatus hernia and they've only gotten worse during pregnancy.  I'm taking ranitidine (Zantac) for it and I try to stay away from foods that I know set it off (ie onions, fried foods, etc) and avoid eating large meals.  Keeping a food log was really helpful for me in sorting out which food were a problem.   I have also found that chewing gum after/between meals has been helpful in dealing with the feeling of having something stuck in the base of my throat.

I've had it since I was really little, like 4. I take a daily medication for it (lanasoprozol or pantoprozol) and just avoid eating too many trigger foods. Some tips I've found helpful are to not drink a lot of fluid while eating as it pushes the acid into the bottom of your throat. Take your antacid and don't eat anything for 30 min to give it time to dissolve. Sit up straight after eating, don't slump over or lay down as that can make you sick. I avoid drinking fruit juice in the morning because it's way too acidic on my stomach. Annnddd.... oh, the gum thing another commenter suggested is really great too.
