What do I do?
My 7 yr old son's behavior this week at school was embarrassing. He threw things (milk carton, pencils), refused to do his work...the teacher already separated his desk from the rest of the class and sends him to the counselor. I am having him evaluated for ADHD and anxiety this wk. At home he has attitude, screams for hrs, and thinks all of this is funny. I am active duty military and while in training he suffered from neglect from his father. I believe now that I have him again and he feels safe, he's getting his anger out from it (it's always 10x worse after he sees his dad for visitation). His awful father isn't helping, of course, and blaming me. I know I'm doing all I can and that this is deep down anger from neglect (his father had him at sitters for 5 to 6 days in a row, he lost a lot of teeth from lack of hygiene, and was dirty/unprepared/tired at school...i was never told anything til I hired a PI and finished military training.) I've also heard of an episode of fecal smearing last yr and now he keeps telling his dad he wants to die bc his dad will pity him and buy him stuff. Anyways, how do I punish the behavior at school this wk? It's too late to spank. I'm keeping him home from his track meet this morning, but simply grounding him is not enough as he thinks it's funny and he can still "play." How would you handle it? btw, I'm 34 wks pregnant. thx.
