Weight gain inside vs outside the womb..?

Question

Does anyone know if babies gain weight quicker when they are inside or outside of the womb? 
My baby's due date is this Sunday, and he will be 7 weeks old. He was born at 3lbs 7oz and is now 7lbs 2oz, but I'd love to know if that's less or more than he would have weighed at birth if I'd gone full term!

it depends. babies bulk up in the third trimester. my son was born at the end of the second trimester or beginning of the third - however you look at it. there were days he had to fast due to blood transfusions. he was on milk very early and they added calories to my milk. towards the end of the NICU stay he was 7.25 lbs, so he grew at a pretty normal rate. however, if there are a lot of complications they grow slowly. also their organs may be more sensitive since they developed outside of the presence of amniotic fluid.
