Va home loan

Any one use the VA home loan to purchase a house? I've been getting mixed stories about the downpayment requirements and percentage rates. I live in NY and my husband and I are looking to purchase our first home next year. Any advice or comparisons between that and FHA or conventional would be great! Thank you!!
