Ovulating

I have been using Clearblue ovulation test and for about a week it will be the smiley face but then it will go straight back to the circle meaning not fertile. I have never detected a flashing smiley face. Is this normal? Does this mean I haven’t ovulated but am highly fertile? I just want it to be flashing so I know when I’m ovulating.

My partner and I have been TTC for a year now and nothing is happening??
